Emily Shafer Photography | The Scavenger Shoot

The Scavenger Shoot

I have been meaning to post this blog for quite some time now! Product photography is very enjoyable, and something I tend to create in my spare time. This particular day was a slow one. I was wandering around the shop, and came across the idea of photographing my ring. I wanted to make a set up and found myself scavenging through the welders scrap metal. He had cut off some pieces of metal and the grooves impressed in them, from the cut, caused the colors to really pop! Once again, someone's trash was made a treasure. I thought the colors presented themselves nicely with my ring, and from then on it was all about composition! I only had one speed light with me, but I think I made it work. It turned out to be a pretty productive day!                              Yes those are my feet! I used two, old ceiling tiles and a white jug that bounced the light from my speed light. Oh and my cell phone flashlight was used for a slight highlight on the side to even them out. Half of the fun of this shoot was finding my "studio equipment".
