HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HEADSHOT.

Today I wanted to spend a little time talking about some tips you can use to make the most out of your headshot. I know how busy life can be as a business owner and how precious your time as a working professional or student can be. You’ve made the right choice in hiring a professional photographer now let’s talk about the little things you can do to ensure the BEST outcome possible!

THINK ABOUT YOUR WARDROBE

What do you want your clients to think about when they meet you for the first time? If you’re a lawyer you may want to come across as strong and confident or fierce but collected. Maybe you’re small business owner and you want look friendly and trustworthy. Whatever adjectives come to your mind should be represented in your headshot, and we can do that with wardrobe. If you are wanting to be the leading professional in your industry the easiest way to start is by looking like one. Wearing a suit and tie will bring a qualified look to your image, while wearing jeans and a nice top says you are polished and approachable. Think about what you want to say, and what you want your clients to think of when they first meet you.

Are you always in a suit and tie, or maybe you are in a more contemporary and casual workplace? Either way we want you to represent your brand and show the best version of yourself, and that means staying true to who you really are. Don’t feel pressured to come up with an entirely new outfit or re-style yourself. The best headshot’s happen when we capture your genuine personality. If you find yourself dressing up for your workplace stick to that, and bring in your suit and tie or favorite pencil skirt. Do you work in a more casual setting? That’s fine too, we can make jeans and a nice top look fantastic. Whichever category you find yourself in, you’ll end up looking effortlessly professional.

DON’T FORGET THE DETAILS!

When you see a polished and styled picture of someone it’s usually because the details have been carefully thought out. So here are some quick ideas to looking impeccable in your photograph.

  • Always bring in freshly steamed/ ironed clothing. No matter what style your going after, wrinkles will always ruin the vibe.

  • Remove all dog hair/ lent with a lent roller. Pet lovers especially!

  • Stick with less jewelry or go for one bold piece. We want all the attention to go to your beautiful smile and dazzling eyes. Too much jewelry can be distracting to our eyes.

  • Ladies, always wear a little bit of color on your lips. If that’s in the form of a lipgloss, lipstick or even a balm. This is the “cherry on top” to creating a perfectly styled look.

  • Men, avoid wearing undershirts that can be seen while wearing your button up. We are aiming for a streamlined look, and t-shirts throw off that visual.

CONSIDER USING PROPS

This one may sound a little odd. . . props to a professional headshot? What I mean by this is an item or accessory that you use in your job. Maybe it’s a doctors coat, a pair of glasses, a laptop or even a pen. Adding small elements like these further enhance your unique personality in one single image. Isn’t that what we all want?

These are only a handful of ideas to help you get the most out of your headshot. I hope this inspires you to think a little more about your headshot and even get a little excited about it! It can be so much fun to step in front of the camera when you receive images that you truly love. Lastly remember, your headshot may be the very first time or only time someone gets to see you. What does yours say?

That’s why at my studio we take time to think of all the details before your session. Let me know how I can help you or your business!
